The Power of Positivity

I attended a Facebook/YouTube live, 11 hour event, Monday, February 22, that truly inspired me. It was Jamie Kern Lima: Becoming Unstoppable Confidence Building Virtual Event. I saw a Facebook ad for it and decided since it was free it wouldn’t hurt to attend. The best event I have attended in a while. Just so many wonderful applications for life. I immediately ordered her book. It’s out now! @jamiekernlima ‘s new book “Believe IT: How to Go from Underestimated to Unstoppable.” Order now at BelieveIT.com. Then I want you to share with me how it has impacted your life. Can’t wait to hear.

After watching all these amazing speakers and reading her book, I decided that I needed to make some changes in order for myself to become unstoppable.

My study had become a catch all for any and everything. When we moved into this house, I wanted the study to be MY SPACE. I love to write and read and I wanted that room for me to do those things. A year ago when we went into pandemic self quarantine, I had arranged the room so that it was conducive for a few of us to be in there doing our schooling and working from home. Since we returned to in-person classes and work, the room has lost any appeal. So I spent Friday night in the room, visualizing what I wanted it to be. Saturday morning I woke up, armed with a $50 Walmart gift card and a little spending cash. With my youngest sons in tow, we hit up the usual hot spots. First stop was Tuesday Morning because you never know what you might find there. Then on to Hobby Lobby. Given my small budget for this project, I didn’t purchase much from these stores as I was saving for the big things. On a whim, due to some Facebook posts about their selection, I stopped at Dollar General. Much to my surprise, I found lamps very similar to what I wanted for the space but for a fraction of the cost. I also found other decorative items there as well. I tell you, do not discount the Dollar General for your decorative needs. Our final stop was Walmart where the boys and I eagerly ran inside with our gift cards, ready to spend. I found the items I needed rather quickly but boys deciding how they are going to spend their $25 on toys, takes a bit of time. I could not get home fast enough, I was ready to get started.

When I say that my study had become a catch all, I was not lying. Don’t judge my mess, I have four sons. So first thing was to move everything out and take everything off the walls. Including those drab (but I loved them) curtains. I do love the look of wood, just in moderation. I knew that I had to brighten the room and that would mean painting some of the wood furniture. I quietly asked my dad, who loves and builds beautiful furniture from all types of wood, for forgiveness. Side note: he really liked the transformation of the room even with the painted furniture. I worked into the wee hours of Saturday night/Sunday morning until I was honestly delirious. Sunday morning, sore and exhausted, I got up and went straight back at it. The final piece I put back in the room was the new (but an old re-purpose project from a friend that never got around to re-purposing it) desk chair. When I put the chair in the room and stood back to admire my work, I cried. For the record, I am not a crier but this room just took on a whole different vibe and feel. I finally had my creative space, my space to take photos, to blog, to read and write, and it was beautiful. There are still some things that I need to add, like plants, and take out, like that big, green plate but I am so happy with the face lift on my study.

“If you wait until you have enough money to decorate and make your home your own, it will never happen. If you wait until you can afford to buy everything new, you are missing the point. It is the old, the new, the hand-me-down, the collected, the worn but loved things in your home that make it your own.” —Stacy Risenmay, Not Just a Housewife

This was just the first step of my journey to becoming unstoppable. This is my starting point. I have a space now where I can work and be creative and it makes me so happy. So expect more from me in the coming days. I actually have so much that I want to share with you all. I am making some changes to my life and trying so many new and amazing products that I can’t wait to tell you about.
