Rainy Days

"Only a select few are able to see the true beauty that lies behind what just might seem like a rainy day or a grey sky.” – Jessica M. Laar

It is a rainy day here in East Texas. The smell of petrichor permeates the air. It is 53 degrees Fahrenheit, which I will take in January. I do not like to be cold. The property is usually quiet on cooler rainy days. Today everyone is at work or in their campers and cabins. It is quiet inside the camper. There is the hum of the electric fireplace. Occasionally you will hear the birds come looking for the feeders between the rainstorms. The boys are back home from time with their dad, and you do hear a few keystrokes or conversations, from them playing computer games with their friends online, come from their room. The primary sound is the pitter patter of the raindrops on the camper. It is peaceful.

One thing that I have learned in our full-time camper living life thus far is that rainy days usually mean that you are stuck inside. Rain serves as a quiet reminder to take a minute and take care of yourself. Drink tea, read a book, curl up for a nap. Do things that only rain seems to encourage. I enjoy reading, writing, doodling. Sometimes we even play on our Xboxes together. The dogs find their spot for the day and curl up. They only move if someone goes into the kitchen or outside.

I know that all sounds wonderful, but it takes preparation. Since we went fulltime camper living, we have to be mindful of the weather. We do most of our living outside, even when it's cold. We have to make sure that we put away things that we don't want to get soaked. Like, my bird feeders. I was losing a lot of seed to the rain. So, we take them down to save the bird seed. There are always projects being worked on around the property so making sure that tools are put back in the shop is a real thing. Gotta bring in the muck boots so that you have them inside in case you need to go outside. Our washer and dryer are not in the camper. They are in the tool shed about 50 feet from the camper. So being weather aware keeps me from having to venture out in the rain to do laundry and keeps these guys from having to go naked. I can be honest; this rainy day was not on my radar, but my husband was weather aware. He made sure to clean up the outside yesterday evening when I went to pick up the kids.

Today is the boys' last day of winter break. They return to school tomorrow. I am really enjoying being in our pajamas and giggling and snacking. I am going to get back to that. Have a great week!!!

Some pics of the day.
