I have four sons and they often bring home the oddest things. We’ve had everything from rocks, sticks, abandoned sports balls and even surprise overnight guests. The latest thing was brought home by my 17 year old son. He brought home COVID-19.
When the pandemic first put us into quarantine, back in March, I kept my family home. We socially distanced and did not go out unless we had to. If we did go out we were armed with masks and hand sanitizer. I said “no” to every play date or hanging out with friends request. I was that mom that was constantly worrying about one of us getting COVID.
When my kids returned from their dad’s, for his weekend, and my oldest said he wasn’t feeling well, I watched him carefully. My oldest son is one who thinks he is invincible and he is always on the go. He works at McDonald’s, he’s a senior in high school, he plays soccer, and he thoroughly enjoys hanging with his friends. I had a hunch that things weren’t right when he was sleeping a lot. He told me that it was fine, that it was just allergies. He had a headache and slight sore throat and was extremely exhausted. I, almost immediately, suggested that he go get tested for COVID. He is still a virtual learner so he was not on campus but it was decided that since he wasn’t getting better it would be best to pull the other three from their schools and I worked remotely.
It took a while to get the results due to the increase in the number of people getting tested. When that positive result came across the screen, even though I suspected it, it took my breath away. So not only do we all have to quarantine again, we have a very contagious illness, that has been really horrible for some, in our home. We are a close family and the boys are always cutting up and wrestling around. My oldest had been sleeping a lot so he wasn’t as involved in the family chaos lately but I instantly became concerned with who else would get sick. I was super glad that I bought that infrared forehead thermometer off of Amazon when they had it as a daily deal a few weeks ago. Yes, I have been randomly checking temps all day, every day, since the oldest got sick.
Last week I actually looked into a personalized vitamin plan since the cases have been increasing and I know that I do not get the vitamins and nutrients that I need through my diet. I have looked at several different vitamin options and came across care/of. I was so happy that they came in this week. Care/of shows you the research behind the vitamins that they choose for you. You take a quiz that asks about your lifestyle and your wellness goals and they recommend the products that are most effective in supporting your goals. You can also add or remove products. Here is what my personalized box looked like.
I am glad that I got the +Superberry. I am drinking it daily to get a boost from a blend of eleven vibrant superfruits rich in vitamin C, including organic acerola cherries, organic maqui, organic goji, and organic acai.
My oldest son is on the upswing of the illness today. He is feeling better and is returning to his feisty, trash talking self. There has been no evidence of symptoms among the other four of us in the home. Every day is still a guessing game. I am constantly monitoring my children’s and my own health. We will get through this. We are going to make lemonade with the lemons life has given us. Stay well friends and remember that we are in this together even if we are apart.
Maybe I should put up my Christmas tree…..
